The Awesome Advice Jennifer Lawrence Gave Brie Larson About Being An Oscar Winner

Brie Larson has acted in a wide variety of projects over her career, including the 2015 drama Room. Larson earned numerous accolades for her performance as Joy Newsom in that movie, which included taking home the Academy Award for Best Actress. Winning an Oscar is a tremendous accomplishment for any actor, but the award became more meaningful to Larson after she received some advice from fellow Hollywood star Jennifer Lawrence about framing the win in more practical terms. As Larson recalled:

I was like, I dont feel any different. I dont feel better about myself. I still dont feel like Im a good actress. She was like, Oh, yeah. Thats totally normal. Ive had the same thing. Dont think of it like that. Think of it as, like, you got your Ph.D. Youre certified; thats it.

After winning her Best Actress Oscar on February 28, 2016, Brie Larson called Jennifer Lawrence the morning after feeling bewildered about owning one of these golden trophies. Fortunately, as Larson stated during her interview with InStyle, Jennifer Lawrence, whos no stranger to winning acting awards, suggested she appreciate the Oscar simply as a certification. Larsons already proved her acting chops in various other movies and TV shows, and while she didnt feel differently about herself overall, her Room performance and the Oscar win that followed was firm proof that shes one of the best performers in the business.

Jennifer Lawrence was definitely a good person for Brie Larson to talk with after bringing home the Academy Award. Like Larson, Lawrence is a performer whos made a big splash in Hollywood at a young age. She won her Oscar for Best Actress for her performance as Tiffany Maxwell in 2012s Silver Linings Playbook, and shes been nominated three other times, most recently for playing Joy Mangano in 2015s Joy. Lawrence has a good handle on how to look at these accolades, so if she could aid Larson on that front, then good on her!

Given her increasing stardom, one would imagine its only a matter of time before Brie Larson is up for Academy Awards consideration again. In the meantime, she has plenty of projects to keep busy with in the near future. Next month Larsons jumping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the half-human, half-Kree superhero Captain Marvel and shell co-star alongside Michael B. Jordan in Just Mercy next year. It was also announced last week that Unicorn Store, which was her first time directing a feature, as she co-helmed it with Lynette Howell Taylor, will hit Netflix in April. The two women are teaming up again behind the camera for Lady Business, which will be released on the same streaming platform and Larson is also expected to star in.

That Time Snoop Dogg Tricked Matthew McConaughey Into Smoking Weed On Set Of The Beach Bum

For obvious reasons, actors generally don't actually drink or do drugs when filming scenes in which their characters do so. That said, now and then we hear stories about what goes down on a film set when they actually do partake, and it's absolutely hilarious. As it turns out, that's precisely what happened on the set of Harmony Korine's upcoming film, The Beach Bum, as Matthew McConaughey revealed that Snoop Dogg pranked him by putting real weed in a fake joint for one of their scenes. During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the Wolf of Wall Street actor explained:

I went to the prop man to make sure I have the prop weed which is like crushed oregano. [During filming], we pass back and forth and all of sudden at the end he goes, 'Yo Moondog, that ain't prop weed, that's Snoop Weed.' I was like, 'Oh you son of a gun.'

It's no secret that Matthew McConaughey has played his fair share of weed enthusiasts over the years, as he first gained stardom by playing Wooderson in Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused. However, things got even more real on the set of The Beach Bum, as Snoop Dogg got his hands on one of the fake joints he was supposed to smoke with McConaughey and made some modifications. As a result, instead of burning the "crushed oregano" that was intended for the joint, the two actors ended up getting super high on camera.

Of course, Matthew McConaughey didn't hold it against Snoop Dogg. In fact, elsewhere in the actor's remarks about the ordeal, he made sure to note that the following nine hours after he smoked the weed were quite enjoyable for the two. That said, he also tempered his enthusiasm by pointing out that nothing they shot that day ended up being usable. Who knows? Maybe it will end up on the special features of the home release.

Why Avengers: Endgame Was Very Specific About What Scenes Were Shown In Trailers

When it comes to movie marketing, Avengers: Endgame has been able to play by its own rules. Truly, this is a sequel that the studio could have chosen to NOT market, and the same amount of tickets likely would have been sold. And yet, Disney and Marvel released two full trailers, and a Super Bowl spot, giving fans a look at specific footage from the upcoming blockbuster.

Every frame of what was shown in those Avengers: Endgame trailers has been analyzed by the amateur detectives located in the Marvel Studios fan base. Black Widows hair, Tony Starks locations, and Captain Americas facial hair has been scrutinized. Then there are the major reveals, like Hawkeye turning into Ronin, or Scott Lang being outside of the Quantum Realm.

With Avengers: Endgame tickets going on sale, we were able to interview Anthony Russo about the upcoming Marvel blockbuster, and I asked him specifically how they choose what to show in a teaser or trailer, knowing that theres so much left to protect. Russo told us:

We drew from a very small section of the movie. We want it to be very confined. We know how savvy the fans are. We appreciate that there are so many people out there who spend time watching these movies multiple times, thinking about all the places the narratives can go. We just don't want to tip or spoil anything for anybody coming into the theater. We want to keep that experience as fresh and exciting and surprising as possible. So yeah, we're just very careful. That being said, Disney marketing is very, very, very effective, and they're very sophisticated in their process and we trust them a lot. And so they helped guide us in terms of how much we should be putting out. They always leaned on the side of putting out more. We always leaned on the side of putting out less. But we tried to find a good, happy medium.

Thats fascinating to learn that it is Joe and Anthony Russo who are the driving force behind the decision to not show footage in the trailers. Perhaps they also realize that, due to the cliffhanger nature of Avengers: Infinity War and the success of the Marvel Studios movies, in general very little has to be done in advance to sell Avengers: Endgame. Announce the release date, and Marvel fans will flock.

But its also that rabid passion and enthusiastic dedication to these stories that has the Russos being protective of what they show in the teasers and trailers. Because, as Anthony Russo states, fans will pore over every provided frame and the brothers wouldnt have it any other way. He tells us:

We love that! Part of our thrill as filmmakers working with these stories is that we were fans once, before we became filmmakers. We love participating in these stories ourselves as fans. So the fact that others are doing that? You know, we've always loved active viewers. Thats the viewer weve always strived to engage with. Whether it be in our early indie film work, in our television work, or now in our Marvel work. We're always looking to engage audiences who are passionate like that.

That approach has helped Joe and Anthony Russo make, arguably, the three most memorable movies in the MCU, in Infinity War, Civil War and The Winter Soldier. Their fandom shines through in their storytelling, and their love for these characters can be felt in the fabric of their movies. Its why we eagerly anticipate the arrival of Avengers: Endgame, which opens everywhere on April 26.
